Şerif Can Ünver
Born in Ankara he started music studies at the age of seven in Suzan Altıner's class as a part‐time cello student at the Istanbul University State Conservatory. In 1993, he started his cello education as a full time student in Prof. Ümit İşgörür's class at Dokuz Eylül University State Conservatory. He won the 3rd prize in the "Talented Children Music Competition" organized by Rotary Club in 1995. Last year of his education, he attended to Prof. Çağlayan Ünal Sümer's class. In 2003, right after his graduation, he passed the exams of the Istanbul Technical University Center for Advanced Studies in Music (MIAM) and became a full scholarship student in Reyent Bölükbaşı's class. At the beginning of 2008, he started his graduate studies at Hacettepe University Ankara State Conservatory, in Assoc. Prof. Sinan Dizmen's class. Later, he continued his studies at the same school, with Assoc. Prof. İzzet Nazlıaka. He won the MA program of Başkent University State Conservatory in 2009 and transferred to this school and continued his studies with Assoc. Prof. Sinan Dizmen again. In 2004, he passed the exams of Başkent University Orchestra Academic Başkent in Ankara and started to work as a cello group member. Since 2007 he is also giving graduate and undergraduate level lectures as a lecturer in the cello department of Başkent University State Conservatory. In 2014, he started orchestral conducting, counterpoint, form and harmony studies with composer and conductor Bujor Hoinic and composer and conductor Artun Hoinic, and in 2014 he started conducting the Başkent Chamber Orchestra. In 2017, he started his second postgraduate education in the field of Orchestral Conducting under the supervision of Burak Tüzün and in the class of maestro Naci Özgüç at Hacettepe University Ankara State Conservatory, Composition and Conducting Department and he graduated in 2019. In the same year, he established the BODER‐Baskent Chamber Orchestra Culture, Art and Education Association. Under the association he also established a multinational orchestra called BIAO‐Baskent International Amateur Orchestra and an amateur children's choir called Başkent Children's Chorus. As the founder of the association he managed many events like workshops, masterclasses, youth concerts and lectures. As a conductor, he conducted the first concert of the BIAO orchestra, which consists of musicians from 21 different countries and Turkish musicians, at the Presidential Symphony Orchestras stage. In 2020, he conducted a magnificent concert in memory of Beethoven's 250th birthday with the participation of pianist Yeşim Gökalp and the Olimbera Voice choir with the support of the German Embassy. In 2020, he started his Doctorate/Proficiency in Art/PhD studies on Cello in Prof. Dr. Ozan Evrim Tunca's class, under the supervision of Associate Professor Şenol Aydın at Eskişehir Anadolu University State Conservatory. Şerif Can Ünver still continues his Doctorate/Proficiency in Art/PhD studies in the same school, continues his çello group membership in Orchestra Academic Baskent. He continues giving lectures in Baskent University State Conservatory. And also continues to be the permanent conductor of the Baskent Chamber Orchestra and a member of the BODER board of directors.
