Orhun Orhon

As a forthcoming and often sought conductor of his generation, Orhon has been student of well known maestro Gurer Aykal and has been credited for his diverse repetoire ranging from modern chamber music to large orchestral music along with his interest for new works. He is also acclaimed for the first recordings and world premiers of many Turkish Composers’ Works. Orhon participated as assistant conductor in international youth projects like the World Youth Orchestra and both assistant and principal conductor in Greek Turkish Youth Orchestra(GTYO) and National Youth Orchestra of Turkey(UGSO). In 2008's Greek-Turkish Youth Orchestra project Orhon was assigned as assistant conductor to Vladimir Askhenazy. In 2011, he was admitted to a masterclass where he studied actively with Maestro Kurt Masur in Detmold, Germany. In spring 2011 he founded Ankara Youth Symphony Orchestra(AGSO)with his students, an instution which aims to bring together forthcoming music students of Turkey with professional musicians. This project rose interest and the orchestra has been invited to play in known occasions inTurkish music life and participated often in International Ankara Festival. Orhon has been a regular guest conductor of Hezarfen Ensemble based in Istanbul and NK Ensemble which specialize on modern music.

Orhon is currently teaching at the state conservatory of Baskent University in Ankara where he is also the principal conductor of Orkestra Akademik Başkent.
